Refractory

In engineering and manufacturing, a refractory is an inorganic, non-metallic material capable of withstanding extreme temperatures (typically above 538°C / 1000°F) without melting, deforming, or losing structural integrity.
  • Purpose: They act as thermal barriers to protect structural equipment, retain heat, and resist chemical corrosion from molten slag or gases.
  • Primary Uses: Lining the inside of blast furnaces, kilns, incinerators, and crucibles.
  • Key Industries: Crucial for steel production, cement manufacturing, glassmaking, and petroleum refining.
  • Chemical Types:
    • Acidic: Made of silica or clay; used where slag is acidic.
    • Basic: Made of magnesia or lime; used in basic steelmaking environments.
    • Neutral: Made of alumina or chromite; chemically stable in both environments.

Carbon Products

Carbon products refer to materials manufactured primarily from elemental carbon, spanning a wide range of industries from heavy manufacturing and filtration to high-tech aerospace engineering and lifestyle consumer goods.

Industrial & Refractory Carbon Products
Building on the concept of high-temperature resistance, carbon and graphite are essential refractory materials.
  • Graphite Crucibles: High-density vessels used to melt and refine precious or non-ferrous metals like gold, silver, and copper. Options like the Cole-Parmer High-Purity Graphite Crucible handle extreme temperatures, while budget-friendly multipacks are available on Amazon India.
  • Carbon Bricks: Dense blocks used for lining blast furnaces due to their resistance to thermal shock and chemical corrosion.
  • Graphite Electrodes: Large scale carbon structures used in electric arc furnaces to melt scrap steel.
